How did last night’s debate influence the election odds?
Opinions may vary on who won yesterday’s debate, but according to the election odds, Kamala Harris claimed the victory. Before the debate, Trump was a slight favourite at 1.90 odds compared to Harris’ 2.00. Now, the candidates have swapped places on the odds list.
The U.S. election is once again the talk of the town. Yesterday, the first (and possibly only) debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump took place in Philadelphia—a heated exchange on policy and leadership, leaving analysts and viewers divided on who came out on top.
“During the debate, the odds market began to shift, with a clear advantage for Harris. The drop from 2.00 to 1.85 may seem like a small change, but in a tight race like this, it’s significant and suggests Harris emerged as the winner,” says Robin Olenius, Head of PR at Betsson.
Betsson, which also offered odds on what the candidates were expected to say during the debate, saw a few lucky winners who bet on phrases like “Bacon” and “Radical Left.”
Shortly afterward, Taylor Swift announced her much-anticipated endorsement of Harris, which may have also influenced Harris’ odds drop.
With the debate dust settling, attention will once again shift to the critical swing states. According to the odds, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Georgia, Arizona, and Wisconsin are the most uncertain states in the upcoming election.
